I only take what I need.

Assignment # 1: The Contents of My Bag

Contents are as follows:

Book: The Holographic Universe

Book: The Wisdom of No Escape

Book: A lined notebook I write various thoughts/pictures in

Blistex Lip Medex(lip balm)

Spare Keys to Apartment

Loose Change

A flyer which reads: Only At Temple Pretzels, etc. etc.

Post-It Notes(purple)

Used Batteries

A Canon miniDV camera

A Wallet, My Wallet

A Pencil Sharpener

A Rabies Vaccination Tag For My Dog

(Already out on my desk was: A Notebook for the class, a Cell Phone, Two Pens and My Keys)

WHAT DOES THIS ALL MEAN?

Analyze what you will, here's what these are:

The two books follow a likeness in the theme of "connectedness." But both offer very different emotional feels. The Holographic Universe is a Quantum Physics take on the ideas of the Universe, specifically this one view, the "Holographic" model. The Wisdom of No Escape is much more like a buddhist self help book. It's actually a series of lectures given during/around meditation at a monastery, very helpful, very nice. The lined notebook is for me to write in, I try to carry it with me often and I choose to write in it at home. It's a helpful venting tool. Blistex is my back up lip medication, I keep chap stick in my coat pockets. Spare keys are there because I had someone walk my dog for me while I was on a film shoot and I never took them out of my bag. Loose change is exactly that. The flyer materialized itself when I went to get a candy bar, AKA the lady at the stand gave it to me. The post-it notes come from when I went to a friends house and thought he might not be around, so I was going to post-it his door if he didn't show. He was home, and I never removed the post-its from my bag. I don't know where the used batteries are from and I'm only assuming they're used. My miniDV camera was there because I thought it might be useful in class and because I take it with me sometimes to just shoot things. My wallet. The pencil sharpener comes from when I was taking my colored pencils around with me, the colored pencils got out, but the sharpener was left behind. And last, the tag for my dog. Obviously, I have a dog. I took her to the vet recently because she had pink eye, I got the medication for that and at the same time I got her rabies vaccine. She doesn't wear a collar, so I just dropped th tag in my bag and that's where it remained.

I'm not sure how telling all of this is about me, or really how interesting this was to read, but now you know. You know I have a dog, that I like the idea of everything being eternally linked, that I don't like to get chapped lips, that I write occasionally and draw pictures and that I do indeed live somewhere.

Maybe you also picked up on the fact that I value contact with friends and that I have use of something that requires batteries. Also, that I like certain ideas, but I need them to be presented in different contexts depending on my mood. You can also see that I like reading and may have picked up on the fact that I don't like reading one book at a time(I was in the middle of reading 8 different ones, but presently The Holographic Universe has been my most visited).

That's it. That's what I need. That's The Contents of My Bag.
